Moulin Rouge! The Musical made its dazzling debut in Korea on 20 December 2022 in a licensed production by CJ ENM, playing to sold-out audiences at Seoul’s Blue Square Theatre until 5 March 2023. Partnering with CJ ENM to bring the production to Korea was an exciting milestone for Global Creatures, marking our very first musical theatre production in the region, and what a spectacular entrance it was!
The Korean production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical was a replica of the North American Tour, with guidance from the original Broadway and Australian creative teams, ensuring the magic and energy of the show came to life in Seoul.
For the first time the production featured two interchanging casts for the duration of the season: Team Elephant and Team Windmill, with Hong Kwang-Ho and Lee Choong-Joo as Christian, and Park Eun-Hye and Kim Ji-Woo as Satine, each bringing their own unique flair to our Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s iconic lovers.
We were thrilled by the incredible reception in Seoul and even had a special visit from Uncle Baz. We are now working with CJ ENM on the second season for Korea opening in November 2025.

Show FactThe Korean production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical was the first to feature a double cast, with two alternating performers for each role. This allowed for greater versatility and attracted a wider audience. This format was repeated for the Japanese production the following year. -

Show FactCJ ENM built a series of pop-up activations in the foyer of the Blue Square Theatre which were extremely popular with long queues stretching down the street each day hours before the show was set to begin. The Korean audiences were super engaged and enthusiastic about embracing all that the Moulin Rouge! The Musical universe holds!
