We partnered with ATG Entertainment in Germany who licensed Moulin Rouge! The Musical, bringing the Spectacular Spectacular to continental Europe for the very first time. The production made its premiere at the Cologne Musical Dome on 6 November 2022, marking a major milestone in the show’s international journey and introducing German audiences to its electrifying blend of romance, glamour and pop-infused theatricality.
Germany, with its deep-rooted musical heritage and thriving theatre industry, was the perfect home for our first licensed production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. Cologne, a vibrant and inclusive city known for its strong LGBTQI+ community and cultural diversity, embodies the same spirit of artistry and celebration that defines Moulin Rouge! The Musical, reflecting the values and ideals at the heart of our production: Truth, Beauty, Freedom and Love.
Leading the cast was Sophie Berner as Satine, whose commanding presence and vocal brilliance lit up the stage. Opposite her, Riccardo Greco played Christian, capturing the heart of the Bohemian dreamer with emotional depth and vocal finesse. Gavin Turnbull brought charisma to the role of Harold Zidler, the enigmatic impresario of the Moulin Rouge nightclub. Marina Maniglio played the role of alternate Satine, bringing depth to the beloved character.
It has been incredible to see Cologne audiences embrace the show with open arms, and we couldn’t be more delighted by its success. In March 2024, the production welcomed its first major cast change, introducing a new group of Bohemians to take centre stage. We look forward to celebrating more milestones in the future as the production continues to welcome new audiences night after night.
ATG Entertainment has been a leading force in live theatre for over 30 years, producing and presenting world-class productions while also developing new stage works. Global Creatures launched The Bohemian Project in 2019 on Broadway as a way for Moulin Rouge! The Musical to give back to the community and share the Bohemian Values espoused in the story. The initiative is focused on supporting emerging artists, creatives, and local communities through industry development, community support, accessibility for people with disabilities, and expanding theatre access for underrepresented groups.
Cologne is recognised as one of the world’s most LGBTQ+ friendly cities, making inclusivity a core value for the Cologne production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. For three consecutive years, Moulin Rouge! The Musical in Germany has proudly partnered with Cologne Pride, celebrating LGBTQI+ allyship and visibility through performances at Cologne’s Christopher Street Day festival and a dedicated Moulin Rouge! The Musical parade float.
In a further commitment to social impact, Moulin Rouge! The Musical in Germany also partnered with Aidshilfe Köln, a healthcare provider supporting people living with HIV and AIDS, on a fundraising campaign that donated €5 per ticket sold within a designated period.
For two consecutive years, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has also hosted the Aidshilfe Köln fundraising gala on its very own stage at the Musical Dome, welcoming performers and the public for an unforgettable night of celebration and solidarity, in support of the organisation’s vital work.
After first launching on the Australian Tour, Get Technical! has since expanded internationally and been successfully delivered around the world. On 10 April 2025, the German production hosted its very first instalment of the event at the Cologne Dome, thrilling fans with an exclusive look behind the scenes, featuring in-depth presentations on the show’s technical magic.
Prior to launching Get Technical!, the German production also hosted a free Open Day event at the Cologne Dome on 6 September 2024. This special event invited the public for a sneak peek at the magic behind the production with backstage tours, autograph sessions, an exclusive exhibition, and more.
The response from the Cologne community has been incredible, highlighting a genuine enthusiasm for behind-the-scenes theatre, and we look forward to the German production hosting more Get Technical! events in the future.
