Following its celebrated debut in Sydney in 2017 and a successful national tour in 2019,  Muriel’s Wedding The Musical was ready to take the next step, introducing this iconic Australian story to UK audiences. The move marks an exciting new chapter for the production, bringing its bold humour, heart and unforgettable soundtrack to an international stage.

Muriel’s Wedding The Musical returned to the stage in a vibrant new UK co-production with Leicester’s Curve Theatre.

Curve has an incredible producing house where the creative process is visible in every corner— led by CEO Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, the team celebrate the artistry behind theatre-making for both performers and audiences. Partnering with them to reignite Muriel’s Wedding The Musical made this revival even more special.

Creating new musicals demands a leap of faith, nerves of steel, and the right creative partnerships. Co-producing this UK premiere with Curve has been an exciting experience—finding our Muriel and Rhonda in the UK, navigating time zones, and overcoming logistical hurdles. We are deeply grateful for our collaboration with Curve’s Chris Stafford and Nikolai Foster, whose passion and expertise, along with their extraordinary team, have helped bring this production to life.

The UK premiere was met with glowing reviews and enthusiastic audience reactions, praised for its emotional depth, infectious humour, and standout performances – particularly Megan Ellis in the title role of Muriel Heslop and Muriel’s best friend Rhonda Epinstall, played by Annabel Marlow.

The production featured reimagined costume designs by original creative Gabriela Tyselova, and original songwriters Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall composed two brand-new songs, Ride or Die and Be Someone, adding a fresh feel to the score. We also welcomed Tony Award-winning video designer Andrzej Goulding, set designer Matt Kinley, sound designer Adam Fisher, and lighting designer Natasha Chivers to the team to bring an all-new vision of Porpoise Spit to life. The production ran at Curve from 10 April to 10 May 2025.
