About the Job

Based in Sydney at Global Creatures headquarters, the Brand and Marketing Director is a senior marketing role responsible for shaping, protecting, and elevating the global brand presence of Moulin Rouge! The Musical (MRTM). The position demands expertise in theatrical marketing, sales strategies, partnerships and oversight on large‑scale campaign execution across multiple territories. As the worldwide brand guardian of the show, this position ensures consistency, excellence, and creative integrity across all productions of Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

This role works closely with our underlying rights holders on the production, Australian and UK Global Creatures’ Marketing Directors, and the licensees of MRTM and their marketing and PR teams, around the world. It requires ongoing cross departmental collaboration at Global Creatures, problem-solving and regular communication, as well as weekly meetings with our Asian licensees and numerous evening meetings with European licensees.

Collaborates with: Global Creatures: Head of Production; Marketing Coordinator; UK and Australian Marketing Directors and Managers; and the Australian Executive Producer and the Head of International Affairs on Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Key responsibilities

  • Communicate the worldwide brand vision for Moulin Rouge! The Musical, ensuring long‑term consistency, and adherence to core brand values across all markets.
  • Oversee and monitor worldwide brand governance, including with our international licensees, ensuring alignment with MRTM Style Guide and Best Practice Guides.
  • Lead and maintain the online MRTM style guide and Best Practice Guides and disseminate to all worldwide users.
  • Act as a Global Creatures’ ambassador and maintain strong relationships with underlying rights holders and music publishers.
  • Uphold the company values to build and maintain Global Creatures’ image and reputation with its investors, licensees, partners, creatives, cast, crew, venues, suppliers and the wider public.
  • In partnership with the Head of Marketing and Communications oversee the Australian MRTM production with strategic supervision and day to day support for the MRTM Marketing Director, Australia and external agencies.
  • Share insights with and support Global Creature’s Marketing Directors in the UK and Australia on best practice multi‑territory marketing strategies, including ticketing strategies, creative development, media planning, partnership and promotions, PR activities and campaign execution.
  • Conduct briefings and onboarding for new Licensee marketing teams with Style Guide orientation, creative and PR approvals, music rights guidelines and merchandise approvals process and reporting.
  • On designated Licensee productions, request and review overall sales and marketing plan, launch strategies, ticket scaling, partnership initiatives, and budget forecasts and provide support for local announcement and on sale of new productions including the timing of market needs for website URL’s, social handles, music licenses and creative assets.
  • Attend weekly designated Partner and Licensee sales and marketing meetings with multiple territories across Australia, Asia, UK and Europe.
  • Provide support for international Licensees (including non-replica productions), monitor local‑market activities to ensure compliance, so their campaigns maximise ticket sales and brand awareness in their markets.
  • Compile and author the MRTM weekly sales and marketing report using data from global productions for GC team, compile the annual Global Wrap Up report for all MRTM stakeholders worldwide.
  • Support Licensed productions with the best practice set up of their own EPKs, production photography and key art shoots and manage approvals with Creatives and Associates.
  • Lead and report on marketing meetings every two months with our key underlying rights holder  to ensure they are across activities worldwide.
  • Oversee and manage music rights approvals for Licensed productions in collaboration with the external music rights consultant, working closely with the GC Legal team to negotiate, track, and manage publisher’s licence terms and expirations.
  • Develop and maintain global approval processes for creative, marketing, legal, and rights‑related materials.
  • Collaborate closely with Business & Legal Affairs to ensure accurate documentation, rights compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Proactively maintain and identify when practices are not covered in the Best Practice Guides and the international Style Guide (internal use) and liaise with Global Creatures’ Marketing Directors to ensure regular updates.
  • Coordinate global communications including press release notifications, key campaign updates, cast announcements, and internal reporting with the Global Creatures team.
  • Work with the Head of International Affairs on Moulin Rouge! The Musical and contribute to regular announcements to co‑producers, investors, rights holders, and international partners.

 

  • Work closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications on the merchandise planning and range for each territory in partnership with Platypus, including product range development and rights compliance.
  • Contribute to the recording process of merchandise range approvals from producer and Licensees and collaborate with Business and Legal Affairs to document all approvals.
  • Ensure merchandise provider (Platypus) and Licensee compliance with our underlying rights and music license obligations on new products.
  • Manage updates and templates for Licensed and non-Licensed show programmes. Work closely with the Production Department to ensure international billing and all creative and production credits are up to date and included.

Exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across international teams, rights holders, licensees, and senior partners.
Experience navigating complex approval processes with strong attentional to detail and respect for legal, rights and brand obligations.
A proactive, solutions-oriented approach with a curiosity for improving processes, systems and global best practice.
An empathetic and collaborative management style, with the ability to build trust and alignment across diverse teams.

Experience we require from you

15+ years of related marketing experience ideally within live entertainment, theatre or global consumer brands.
Demonstrated experience working across multi-territory or global campaigns, including collaboration with international stakeholders and partners.
Proven experience in brand management and governance, ensuring consistency across multiple markets, teams and external partners.
Strong experience in ticketing strategy and sales performance analysis.
Experience working closely with legal, rights or compliance teams, in areas such as music licensing, sponsorship approvals or contractual obligations.
Tertiary qualification in a marketing, PR, Communications or related discipline.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, MS Teams, Asana, Facebook Business Manager, Adobe Creative Suite.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with strong reporting and presentation capability.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, operate effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment.
