Global Creatures is committed to fostering inclusive, equitable and culturally responsive environments across our productions. Some of our practices include:
Upholding diverse hiring practices to ensure equitable opportunities across all our productions.
Delivering an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy across our productions — developed in consultation with cast, crew, musicians, and company members — to articulate a vision for a workplace that actively cultivates a sense of belonging. This includes inclusive casting, workplace development programs, community engagement and support for emerging artists, and fostering access and opportunity for underrepresented communities.
Supporting and advocating for First Nations and Indigenous peoples, including our public endorsement of the First Nations Voice to Parliament during Australia’s federal referendum in 2023, and continuing to amplify Indigenous voices, businesses and stories via our Australian productions.
Offering learning and development opportunities for cast, crew, and musicians in alignment with social, cultural and heritage observances.
Providing textured hair training for Hair & Wig staff to better understand and support the diverse hair care needs of performers.
Expanding access to backstage careers by offering internships and crew shadowing opportunities across our productions.

Offering discounted or free tickets to marginalised or underrepresented communities, giving broader access to theatre beyond traditional audiences and helping more people experience live performance.
Creating educational resources and study guides about our productions to support schools and students in learning about the arts, fostering engagement, and inspiring the next generation of theatre-makers.
Hosting post-show discussions for different community and cultural groups, providing opportunities to explore the themes of the production, learn more about the material, and engage in meaningful conversations.
Supporting environmental and wildlife causes, including fundraising on our productions to aid recovery efforts during the Australian bushfires, Los Angeles wildfires, and contributing to Taronga Zoo’s conservation initiatives.
Fundraising for non-profit organisations through bucket collections, merchandise initiatives, benefit performances, and optional donations included during the ticket purchase process for our productions. Among these initiatives was a special Melbourne performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, which donated all profits to two prominent West Australian-based First Nations organisations – the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and The Westerman Jilya Institute for Indigenous Mental Health. In 2019, we launched The Bohemian Project, Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s global social responsibility outreach program which focuses on arts education, workforce development, fundraising activities, community engagement to support emerging talent and provide theatre access for historically excluded communities.
We support emerging artists, creatives, musicians and theatrical communities through industry development workshops and events.
Get Technical – Behind the Curtain of Moulin Rouge! The Musical is an event originally conceptualised by General Manager, Dawn Martin. The event supports the theatre industry by highlighting pathways from backstage crew and stage management to company operations and front-of-house roles. After first launching on the Australian Tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, the event engaged over 4,000 attendees nationwide and was recognised at the 2023 Australian Event Awards with Best New Event (National) and Best Cultural, Arts or Music Event (QLD).
Get Technical has since expanded internationally and been successfully delivered in London, Cologne, and on the the World Tour in Manchester, with other territories looking to build on this success. In the UK, we teamed up with ATG Entertainment to launch the Get Technical Academy on our West End production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical – a free, 10-week technical training program designed for 15- to 25-year-olds.
Get Musical! – Behind the Baton of Moulin Rouge! The Musical is an initiative that offers women and nonbinary people across North America hands-on experience working in the orchestra pit of a Tony Award-winning musical. It was created in partnership with Austin Rivers, Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Maestra Music, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting, elevating, and connecting women and nonbinary musicians in the musical theatre industry.
The initiative aims to ignite passion, create pathways for the next generation of music directors and musicians, while fostering inclusion for women and nonbinary people who have historically been underrepresented in these spaces.
For our productions of King Kong and Moulin Rouge! The Musical, we were thrilled to partner with Inside Broadway on their Creating the Magic program which brings underserved New York City public school students to see productions and discover the crucial behind-the-scenes roles that bring a musical to life. For many of these students, it is their first time in a Broadway theatre.
During the program, actors and musicians perform musical highlights from the show, while each department head and the production stage manager demonstrate the technical and special effects that create the magic on stage, shining a well-deserved spotlight on those who usually work behind the scenes. Its mission is to inspire young people to embrace their creativity and understand that careers in the arts are both achievable and rewarding.
While it has always been at the heart of what we do, our commitment to industry development became even more critical after the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought unprecedented challenges to the theatre industry. A significant loss of backstage staff and crew, combined with the disruption of traditional on-the-job recruitment and training impacted productions worldwide. To help bridge this gap, we have supported Australian theatre companies to create new work and introduced a range of industry-focused initiatives across our productions and our corporate operations.
