Fabric and Costume Assistant

This role is part-time for 2 days per week, with the flexibility to work additional days when required.
The Fabric and Costume Assistant of the Moulin Rouge! The Musical International Fabric Hub is responsible for maintaining & recording the movement of all Fabric store inventory, including fabric, trim, clothing and accessories.
Reporting to and working in collaboration with the Moulin Rouge! The Musical International Costume Supervisor, you will be located at our Fabric Hub in Leichhardt, Sydney. Onsite facilities include secure car parking, kitchen facilities, a café and Internet provided.

Key Responsibilities
- Receive or collecting goods from vendor or courier
- Checking off all delivered items against delivery paperwork and verifying quantity and quality of items received (using a fabric winding machine, if required)
- Tagging each item with item specifications
- Entering all new items into the Inventory Database
- Filing and storing all new items in hub warehouse
- Receive New Order from International Costume Supervisor
- Create New Order in live spreadsheet
- Check global inventory stock levels & allocate item locations
- Locate stock in Hub warehouse
- Cut all Order lengths
- Update Inventory Database records accordingly
- Label/tag all fabric/trim lengths and costume items as per order specifications
- Package all items ready for shipping or delivery
- Prepare all international shipping/courier paperwork for collection or deliver local shipment as required.
- Prepare and send delivery paperwork to receiver
- Maintain Costume Compendium with updated fabric swatches and note item codes
- Ensure warehouse space is maintained, including purchasing basic consumables required to store stock
- Ensure careful storage of fabric, trims and stock clothing items
- Record any fabric or stock returns from local vendors.
- Operate Fabric Winding machine when required (training provided)
- Delivering/collecting fabric to/from vendors when required
Required skills
| Excellent organisational skills |
| Ability to work autonomously and to a deadline |
| Knowledge of fabric technology, specifications, cutting and handling |
| Previous experience cutting & handling fabric |
| Basic computer skills, including experience with Word, Excel and Googlesheets |
| Proficient verbal and written communication skills |
| Previous experience or ability to learn process of data entry within spreadsheet and database software |
| Previous experience with organising receive/dispatch freight or ability to learn process |
| Experience in historical costume and/or garment construction preferred |
Job requirements
| Own vehicle required for pick-ups and deliveries |
| Vehicle must be able to transport fabric rolls and/or cardboard boxes to and from hub warehouse |
| Role requires a level of physical strength/fitness for the handling of heavy fabric rolls, storage tubs/boxes and shipping packages |
